Numbers Fun Part 3
Although the mathematician might tell us otherwise, reality is that some numbers come up far more often than other numbers in the short time frame and sample size we are dealing with here.
The “hottest numbers” came up 38 times while the “coldest number” came up only 20 times, almost a 2 to 1 difference.
One can find even more radical “oddities” with a shorter time frame and lower drawing count.
A great example of this is the 10 Powerball drawings between 09/24/2008 and 10/25/2008.
The number 32 was drawn during four of those 10 Powerball drawings or in 40% of the 10 drawings.
In reality 32 was drawn 4 times between 09/24/2008 and 10/18/2008 which is 4 times in 8 drawings or 50%. Additionally, 32 was drawn in two successive drawings, those of 10/15/08 and 10/18/08.
The numbers 3, 13, 17, 39 and 48 were been drawn 3 times or in 30% of the drawings.
The numbers 1, 10, 14, 38, 40 and 52 were drawn 2 times or in 20% of the drawings.
The numbers 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 21, 24, 26, 29, 33, 36, 43, 47, 49, 51, 54 and 55 were drawn 1 time or 10% of the drawings.
And the numbers 6, 11, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30, 31, 34, 35, 36, 41, 42, 44, 45, 46, 50 and 53 have not been drawn even once.
So much for the mathmetician’s theories when applied to small sample sizes over short periods of time when mechanical operations (drawing lottery balls) are involved…
So how can the lottery player benefit from these “oddities” in the frequency with which certain numbers are drawn?
This is where the saying “The trend is your friend” comes into play, as understanding and using “the trend” can improve your chances of winning.
Spotting and playing “hot numbers” as they become “hot” gives one a slight advantage in attempting to pick winning numbers. Spotting and not playing “cold numbers” as they become “cold” gives one a slight advantage in attempting to pick winning numbers. Combining the two techniques will improve anyone’s chances of winning lottery prizes.
